The Bell Sword

Sharroglass, Tal, Morris and Pete the scout travel to Arctana to help the Duke, Sharroglass's father.

Duke Willaim is losing. He has heard that there are Golden Templars said to be the famed Knights of Perseus, in Arctana. He thinks he has a chance of winning if he can get the Golden Templars on his side. He asks Sharroglass to find them and persuade them to join him.

Sharroglass and his companions travel to the last known location of the Templars .They are intercepted by two Templar knights whio agree to take them to their Preceptor.

The Preceptor is interested only in finding the Bell Swor. While Enduval was in power he took the Great Bell that all men could ring in times of trouble, and melted in down to form a powerful sword. The Knights of Perseus want to reforge the Great Bell. They will offer to help if they get their sword back.

Sharroglass remembers that his father had mentioned a mighty sword that Edmund had acquired. Sharroglass suspects that this may be the Bell sword. He also knows that his evil brother, Edmund De’Lacey, is holed up in the Fort of Sandarn. The Templars resolve to attack Edmund to regain the sword. Sharroglass and Tal manage to persuade them that a stealth attack would have more chance of succeeding.

Morris leads the way, with Pete. They have to ask the Kniughts of Perseus to hang back as their plate armour makes so much noise. They sneak round to the back doorMorris at his most inoffensive persuades the gate guards to play cards before jumping them.

They sneak across the courtyard towards the gate house. The guards spot them, and leaving the Templars to deal with them Sharroglass leads the charge upstairs to confront his brother.

Edmund seeing that they are about to loose the sword calls for his magical advisor. The advisor reveals himself as Enduval, opens a portal and the Sword falls through. Enduval and Edmund transport themselves away. The portal the sword fell though remains open. One of the Templars sees their precious sword fall, and jumps through after it. The others follow.

They find themselves within the Hidden Blaze college, a place that has been deserted since the Mage Wars. No-one has ever come out alive.

They are beset upon by Horrors, twisted remnants from the Mage Wars. It is quickly apparent that the beasts are not trying to harm them. Tal asks if they have seen the sword. One of the Horrors points upwards, and says that the King has it. The Templars charge upstairs. There is a flash of light. As the others follow they find their comrades unconscious and a teerrifying beast holding the Bell Sword.

This is the King of the Horrors.. He tells them that he will give them the Sword on one condition, they help release themselves from the dark prison they are confined within.

Morris agrees, as he thinks bluffing is better than confrontation. The King of Horrors tell them that in the centreof the College there is a well. The well contains the remains of the magic wards that act to hold the Horrors within. If they burn the scroll that the wards are on then they will be nullified and the Horrors will be free. The welll is guarded by a big beast that the Horrors fear.

Morris asks for the Templars to be returned to consciousness, pointing out that they are the best fighters, with lots of armour and big swords. The King agrees. Morris distracts the Knights of PPerseus by saying that there is an abomination in the well that must be killed. The Templars lead the way.

Once there the Templars engage the beast, Pete bides his time, thhen darts in ansd rescues the scroll. While the Templars battle on, the others examine the scroll. Morris, who seems to know a bit about magic, thinks that it is a Binding. All they have to do now is burn it.

Sharroglass is not sure that they should release the Horrors and wonders if he could get close enough to the King to kill it. Morris reminds him of the spell that knocked out the Templars, and says that their only chance of getting the sword is to burn the scroll.

The Horrors are all gathered by the gate. There are only a handful of them and the Templars think they should be easy enough to hunt down and kill. Morris and the King eye each other up, and agree to swap items. The King lays the Bell Sword down on the ground, and morris burns the scroll. As soon as it begins to burn the Horrors start to flee their prison. One of the Templars seixes the Bell Sword, the ducks as hundreds of Horrors thunder through the door. Some are horse like, some fly like great winged snakes, others crawl and squirm. The party watch in Horror as more and more Horrors appear.

As they stand shocked, wondering what they have just done, the Hermit appears. He asks if they let the Horrors out, and seems pleased when they mournfully admit to it. He asks them to walk with him, and take them through to world desolated by Sarquon. He explains that if the Horrors were not released then the people would not rally to King Ashreal add he would die here in a year's time and Sarquon would win. Then he walks them through to a K'tal where all is well, where Sarquon is defeated. This is the world where the Horrors were released and where people joined the fight for Light. Ashrael's death was, in this world, the final rallying point and Sarquon was defeated.

He takes them back to the Hidden Blaze College. Sharroglas is disturbed by the information that is King dies and swears the others to secrecy both about the Horrors and about Ashreal's forthcoming death.
